How to sign a PDF online for free

You do not need to print, sign and scan a document any more. This guide shows how to add your signature to a PDF in your browser, on a computer or phone, in about a minute.

Go straight to the Sign PDF tool if you already know what to do.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

    Open the Sign PDF tool

Go to the Sign PDF tool and add your document. Page previews appear once it loads.

  2. 2

    Create your signature

Choose Draw to sign with your mouse or finger, Type to write your name in a handwriting style, or Upload to use a photo of your signature on paper.

  3. 3

    Place it on the page

Tap where the signature should go. Drag it to move it and use the corner handle to make it bigger or smaller. Add initials or today's date if the document needs them.

  4. 4

    Download the signed PDF

Press Download signed PDF. The signature is added on top of the original pages, so the document keeps its quality.

Uploading a photo of your signature

Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen and take a photo in good light. The paper background is removed so only the ink appears.

Privacy

The PDF and your signature are processed in your browser and are not sent to a server.

Legal use

This adds a visual electronic signature. Some official documents require a certificate-based digital signature instead, so check what the recipient asks for.
