Small wording edits, not full paraphrasing
A rule-based text rewriter is useful for expressions such as “in order to” → “to”, or “prior to” → “before”. It cannot understand an abstract, judge a hypothesis or guarantee equivalent scientific meaning. Academic and Creative modes only apply selected wording rules. Shorten does not summarise, and Expand does not invent explanations. Different modes may leave your text unchanged.
TXT, DOCX and text-based PDF input, up to 5 MB and 20,000 extracted characters. TXT or DOCX output. Images, scanned PDFs and original document styling are not supported.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an AI paraphrasing tool?
No. It uses a small set of predefined English phrase replacements on your device. It does not generate new ideas, understand context or rewrite every sentence.
Can I use it for research papers?
Only for small wording edits that you review carefully. Citations, parenthesised text, numerical data, quoted material and keywords are retained, but technical or scientific meaning is not verified. It is not a substitute for academic editing.
Does rewriting remove the need for citations?
No. Always cite original research sources and follow your institution’s academic integrity policies.
Can I open a PDF?
Yes, if it contains selectable text. PDFs with more than 100 pages, scanned pages or a required opening password are not supported. Paragraph extraction may differ from the source layout.
Is my text private?
The rewriter reads files and edits text in your browser. It does not transmit your submitted text to AI or save it on our servers. The website may separately load analytics or advertising services.
Is it free?
Yes. No account or AI credits are needed. The limits are 20,000 characters per edit and 5 MB per file.
Why is my result unchanged?
Only phrases in the selected mode’s rule set are changed. If none match, the tool returns your original text and says that no edits were made. Modes can give the same result on some text.
What does Expand do?
It expands common contractions and abbreviations, such as e.g. to for example. It does not add facts, explanations or new paragraphs.
